Democracy

I dunno, maybe it's just me but will someone please tell George Bush he really ought to read Webster's Dictionary so he can at least gain a nodding recognition of what he got elected to do? I know he's not much of a reader but the definition is real short – just like the Constitution – and even George ought to be able to manage this read.

According to Webster, Democracy is a government in which the people hold the ruling power either directly or through elected representatives… a majority rule. The principle of equality of rights, opportunity, and treatment, or the practice of this principle… the common people, especially as the wielders of political power.

Really, what's not to understand and why are George Bush and Dick (he shot his friend in the face with a gun) Cheney having so much trouble with the concept? I sure hope our next president is a reader because it's been very painful for the majority of us to see the gridlock and veto threats that have our nation stalled in the worst traffic jam of the century.

Did We Mention Majority Rule?

'We are aware of absolutely no court decision that supports the notion that a former White House official has the option of refusing to even appear in response to a Congressional subpoena.'

Bush's former political director Sara M. Taylor declined to answer most of Congress' questions about her role in the firings of federal prosecutors. They won't cooperate until threatened with jail time and worse. 7/11

New Economic Populism Spurs Democrats

By ROBIN TONER
The more populist tone is one indication of a broader debate among Democrats over how much they should break with the centrism of the Clinton years.

Bush Places Our GIs in the Middle of a Civil War, Pawns in the Failed Game of Empire

With the war in Iraq roiling Congress, antiwar groups are targeting dozens of lawmakers – many facing tough reelection races in 2008 – in a bid to peel off enough Republicans to force President Bush to end the war there.
